Weekends That Were - July 2021

29.7.21

Oxley

Another walk with little to report. The usual, expected species for the time of year. A half a dozen Monarchs were out, thanks to the warmer morning.

27.7.21

Minnippi

I went looking for the Emerald Dove reported by Mr P last Saturday. But I maintained my record of failure chasing other people’s birds. An average winter’s morning’s birding – 50 species, nothing noteworthy. No butterflies.

9.7.21

Minnippi

A wet, dreary morning so not on site till 8.30. Average morning, nothing exciting, rained for most of the two hours. List of 43 species and 2 butterflies – Black Jezebel and Evening Brown.

6.7.21

Oxley

Another one and a half hour walk, alone, produced a list of 45 species including a Brown Falcon and a Black Kite, but little else of note. One Monarch was the only butterfly.

Enthusiasm and motivation non-existent.

5.7.21

Toohey

A one and a half hour walk after 15.00 with Mr D raised a list of 17 species but nothing of any interest.

 4.7.21

Minnippi

Picked up Mr P at 7.10 and on site within 10 minutes. Average winter morning, nothing super-exciting, 55 species and 1 butterfly that was probably ‘bird’ of the morning, so to speak – a Yellow Albatross in excellent condition, obviously a recent hatch.

Breakfast at Nine Bar & Kitchen followed with usual discussion.
