Oxley
Mr P picked both Mr D and myself up at my place at 6.15.
None of us has been doing much birding, especially me, of late. A combination of weather – too hot and uncomfortable or wet – lack of motivation and potentially a low level of enthusiasm for seeing the same bird, on the same branch, doing the same thing….. had led to a lack of enthusiasm.
However, our morning’s walk at Oxley proved to be quite notable.
It was a cool, slightly misty morning that warmed up as expected, but was still a pleasant experience even at 8.30 when we finished.
First up two Brown Goshawks perched up on a fence line, followed shortly afterwards (thanks to Mr D) by a Rose Robin – not a common occurrence at Oxley and, it maybe argued, early in the season? Further on, just before the ponds, a perched up Brown Falcon, a raptor not common in the Brisbane area, but I have seen at Oxley on 36 occasions previously.
A perched up Osprey on the main island in the bigger pond was a nice surprise and, finally from the car park on our return, a very distant Whistling Kite made it 4 raptors for the day. With a total list of 57 species it wasn’t a bad morning’s effort.
We retired as usual when birding Oxley to Arte & Gusto in the Graceville area.
